Domestic Violence / 4th Degree Assault

According to Washington law, domestic violence and fourth degree assault exist when a person:

v

Physically hits, assaults, or harms a person in any manner; or

v

Creates a fear of immediate physical harm, assault, or injury within a person.

Examples of behavior causing fear of immediate physical harm include, but are not limited to: controlling or limiting a person’s freedom of movement, stalking someone, destroying property or making verbal threats about hurting someone.

Domestic violence is not limited to parties who are relatives, cohabitate, or have a child or children together.
